Each year for the past several decades, an Orkney CE Camp has been held in the summer for Orkney youngsters. In the past the camp has sometimes been held on the mainland of Scotland, but more recently it’s mainly been here in Orkney – either on the Orkney mainland or somewhere in the isles.
The camp is normally held at the beginning of the school summer holidays, and runs over five nights. Children from all over Orkney can come – we welcome children from approximately Primary 4 through to Secondary 2. No church background is necessary, but the leaders and main speaker are Christians, and the overall purpose of the camp is to learn more about Jesus and to make more of a commitment of our lives to Him.
As well as the themed evening meetings, there is a lively programme of daytime activities which can include beach treasure hunts, sports day, photographic competitions and of course the highly anticipated water fight.
The adult leaders are all vetted by Disclosure Scotland and qualified first aid personnel are part of the team too. The camp is run by Cameron Stout with the help and support of vounteers from KBC and other congregations.
